What is the difference between a real estate loan and a mortgage loan?

Real estate loans are more flexible and can finance a wide range of investments: homes, land, non-residential properties, renovations, or refinancing. Any eligible property can be used as collateral.

Mortgage loans are more restrictive: they are exclusively for the purchase or construction of a home, and the collateral must be the property itself.
